At some point in the past, I had requested an additional set top box and they sent me a "new" one, a TELUSTV-21T. I did some research and discovered the coming wholesale change from old to new Optik TV hardware. At the time I just left the new box on the shelf and decided to wait for the real rollout of the new system (to existing customers--still waiting ...)
Anyway, a few days ago I called about something and my contract was nearing its end so we also dealt with that and I pointed out that I had a mix of equipment and shouldn't we move forward? I thought I was promised all new equipment was on its way so I could get rid of the old.
What I received were three different boxes:
- a TELUSTV-21T (Digital Box)
- a UIW4001 (technicolor 4K Wireless Digital Box and with a label "Migration Kit" on the box and NO Remote!)
- a UIW8001 (technicolor 4K PVR and with a label "Migration Kit" on the box and NO Remote!)
Curiously the latter two are different from my Cisco/Arris gear which is definitely "OLD" and uses local storage.
Can anyone here confirm that the TELUSTV-21T is part of the "new cloud" system and cannot be used with any of the other Telus Optik TV equipment? (Arris, Cisco, technicolor, ?)
Also, if an apple TV box can entirely replace the TELUSTV-21T in terms of functions then I only need them for TVs with no apple TV box, right?
Thanks.

The Technicolor set top boxes use the Mediaroom platform vs the cloud-based TELUSTV-21T. The platforms are not compatible with one another. Which platform are you looking to use moving forward?

The Telus TV+ is the new cloud based. From what I read here is it is not compatible with the old system. Some have said they lost their recorded locally shows once the new box is activated. Just sharing what I saw.

Thanks for the reply, Rocky3, but I was hoping for comments on the specific equipment I listed in my OP. I would prefer to know this before I call telus again to get clarification.

TelusTV-21T is the newest box.
What you got was options. Lately Telus is recycling the old boxes due to the major amount of failed TelusTV-21T systems. But as I have reported it is the power supply that comes with this tuner that fails and not the 21T itself. Going 2 months now with a new power supply from amazon with zero issues.

I was under the impression that I was being sent equipment to move to the new platform and was concerned when I saw these older devices, thus the question here. But, I do have some TVs on an Apple TV box so if I understand correctly I can move to just one or two TELUSTV-21T and send EVERYTHING else back and use my Apple TV boxes for the other TVs? Curiously, the Telus TV+ App shows the PVR titles that have been recorded but won't let me play them. How will the Telus TV+ App know I have switched from the old system to the new cloud system?

Yes, that is correct. Our customer care team would need to migrate you.

I am just curious if the new cloud-based optik TV service has one optik device designated as the PVR and all the others talk to it or if they equally access the cloud storage directly to retrieve programs? In other words, is there one box that should have hardwired network and maybe even UPS to ensure smooth operations? And who remembers the scheduled recordings? The cloud itself or one/each of the boxes?
