Can the Doorbell Camera be hardwired directly to electricity ... will it work without a chime?
i don't have a chime. My existing doorbell is connected to the Telus home phone. There is no power to the current doorbell.
Upon re-contracting after being "forced" to switch from old-style copper internet to pure fibre ... Loyalty was pushing hard for us to sign up to "home view" or "smart home automation", with all the bells and whistles, without checking with me on the existing wiring for the doorbell camera.
Telus tech who came to install the doorbell camera, smart thermostats and garage sensors, said he cannot install the doorbell camera. He asked that i get an electrician to hook up the wiring to a chime, with a transformer and also from the chime to the doorbell.
I now have to get an electrician at my own costs, to run an electrical line to the doorbell camera. I can connect the doorbell camera to Alexa to chime on Alexa hopefully. I saw on this forum that Telus Support recommend it can be done.
I would like to know if i can skip the chime and transformer, and connect the doorbell camera directly to the electrical wire (which i will get the technician to run, from inside the house).

Hi ITY, based on the information at https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/install-homeview-doorbell-camera Given your current setup and the need for an electrician to run the electrical line, it is advisable to follow the technician's recommendation to ensure your Doorbell Camera works as intended. The TELUS Doorbell Camera typically requires a chime and transformer to function correctly. Directly connecting it to an electrical wire without a chime and transformer may not be compatible with the device's requirements.

The TELUS Doorbell Camera requires a low-voltage power supply, specifically 10-24v AC 10VA
Since you do not have or want a chime then all you need is a wall plug in adapter and run the wire to the doorbell. This is a DIY job as there is no power until it is plugged in.
