Remote access to AirPort Extreme with direct ONT connection

Does anyone know if there are any issues with ditching the T3200M and connecting the AirPort Extreme direct to the ONT (I don't use Optic TV).  I am wondering about getting remote access to the AP from outside my network... anyone doing that or tried it?

Yes, you can use a router other than the T3200M, but it is doubtful you will be able to access it from outside. Generally, residential internet connections are prevented from ‘listening’ on the network, and devices behind your router have to initiate the interaction.
