In August of 2024 I upgraded my phone, walked out of the store with my S22 and new S24 in hand, and waited the hours for my new phone to fully organize itself. The old phone went into the junk drawer where it was forgotten.
Fast forward to November 2024 and a phone arrives from Telus. It is identical to my old one that was traded in. I ignore it for a few weeks waiting to see if maybe I accidentally ordered it or I get charged and nothing happens. I call Telus who tell me that it was "sent as a repair replacement" and now I'm even more confused. I explained that there was no repair replacement and that my old phone was upgraded months prior. They tell me to hold while they investigate and eventually determine I was "sent the phone accidentally." Okay no issue, they send me an email on how to return the phone so I pack it all up and drop it off at Canada Post (only for them to go on strike).
It's now January 2025 and I get another email about how they are still waiting for the phone. I call and after being passed around several times I'm told that "it arrived at our warehouse, everything is good." Fantastic! While doing spring cleaning I find my old S22 and decide to sell it to a friend as I have no use for it. He then notifies me a few weeks later that the phone is locked. I call Telus to learn that the IMEI was blacklisted and "reported lost or stolen." I ask by who and why as it was my old phone which has now been paid in full and off contract for upwards of 6 months. Turns out the IMEI number matches the one I was sent back in December, meaning I must've accidentally packaged up and returned my *actual* old phone which was confirmed received at their warehouse back in January.
But now Telus has sent me another email with how to return the blacklisted phone. So I'm going to have to send back a phone I should've never received in the first place and also not have my old S22 returned to me for my own use.

Things aren't quite making sense here or am I missing something?
1) "I walked out of the store with my S22 and new S24 in hand"
2) "the old phone went into the junk drawer"
3) "It is identical to my old one that was traded in"
4) "pack it all up and drop it off at Canada Post"
5) "I find my old S22 and decide to sell it to a friend"
So what phone did you trade in then if you walked out of the store with your old S22? If your old phone (S22) went into a junk drawer not finding in it until you decided to sell it to a friend (after you sent back the other phone mistakenly sent to you), how did you manage to "accidentally" send back the wrong phone to Telus?

The issue has been resolved since posting this but anyway..
I traded in my s22 for my s25 (my current phone now) which I've since learned i should've never been given my s22 back since it was on the Bring it Back Program. The workers mistakenly gave it back to me and I thought nothing of it since BellMTS gives your phone to you once finished a contract.
I accidentally sent the wrong phone back because they were identical. Both black s22 phones. When the rogue one arrived I went to grab my old one to investigate and must've gotten them mixed up when I was checking things out.

Still not quite making much sense but since you got it resolved, it matters little.
