Today I received a call from 780-991-5289. The caller identified himself as a Telus loyalty employee. Told me that since I always pay my bills on time that I would be getting a 35% discount on my monthly bill for one year. Also that I would be able to chose from a Galaxy watch or a GalaxyT9 tablet. I told him that Telus never contacted me like this before, why are they now? I asked him to prove that he was actually with Telus. He was able to correctly tell me what my current bill amount is. By this time I had logged into my account and was able to verify, he was correct. I asked if anyone could verify the offer is valid and was told that no other departments know about the offer... He did send me an email asking me to log in and verify who I am. I told him I was already logged in and will not be using the link I had him send. His email looked like it may be ligit. I also talked to his manager and over the same question.. Then I was told a shipping department person would call. I changed my account password and PIN after this..

This is indeed a scam. TELUS will never call unsolicited to offer discounts and free devices in exchange for personal information or account verification through an external link. We recommend that you do not engage further with this caller, block the number, and report the incident to CDP@telus.com. You’ve already taken a great step by changing your password and PIN—if you haven’t yet, please also enable two-step verification for added security.
If you ever receive an offer and aren’t sure whether it’s legitimate, you can always check directly through My TELUS or by calling us at our official customer support number. https://www.telus.com/en/about/security/phishing-spam
