Only some websites reachable

Since yesterday's outage (I'm in Toronto) all my devices (Android, Win 11 and iPhone) are only able to reach some websites but not others, same issue with mobile apps.  It's always the same sites/apps for all devices.  For example, Using Chrome browser, Instagram works but Reddit does not, it results in ERR_TIMED_OUT.

Tried all the usual troubleshooting: Reboot modem and router, reboot devices, ensure all OSs are up to date.

Tried changing DNS server on Win11 laptop to Google (IP V4 8.8.8.8 & V6 2001:4860:4860::8888) and rebooting but that made no difference.

Also not using any VPN

Looking for sugestions for next step.

It sounds like you've already done some thorough troubleshooting — thank you for that. Since the issue persists across multiple devices and affects only certain sites or apps, the next step would be to perform a full network reset on your devices and router:

  • Power cycle your modem/router again, but this time leave it unplugged for at least 5 minutes before reconnecting.
  • Forget and re-add your Wi-Fi connection on each device.
  • If you're using a third-party router, try bypassing it and connecting directly to the TELUS modem to rule out any router issues.

Thanks

Just wondering if the modem (I guess), the box between the fibre in and the router will have any issues after being disconnected for 5 minutes?

No, your modem (or fibre terminal/ONT) won’t have any long-term issues from being disconnected for 5 minutes.

I'm also having the exact same issue. I followed your troubleshooting steps though no luck.

I followed this suggestion and it solved the problem:

  • Power cycle your modem/router again, but this time leave it unplugged for at least 5 minutes before reconnecting.
  • Forget and re-add your Wi-Fi connection on each device.
  • If you're using a third-party router, try bypassing it and connecting directly to the TELUS modem to rule out any router issues.

Just for anyone else who is having the same issue, even after all of the above troubleshooting, I had to factory reset both the modem and the router to resolve the issue.

Try changing your Wi-Fi network password.   It's a pain in the ass to update all your devices but this is the only solution that works if you have partial Internet after power outages.  The WiFi password gets corrupted somehow when you have a power outage.  This is why on hardwire all your websites work but on wifi it only works for some.

It's an issue with this Arcadyan modem but Telus refuses to admit it's an issue.   I have a bit more time left on my contract and then I'm leaving.
